Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS)
The National Underwriter Company is proud to offer the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) designation program. Created with the learning needs of new insurance producers, agents, managers, CSRs and corporate staff in mind, the CLCS is the most complete professional learning program available for industry professionals seeking to master the subject of commercial lines coverage. The program was created by the staff of the renowned FC&S Bulletins.

Students completing the CLCS program have demonstrated extensive knowledge in a critical functional area of property and casualty insurance practice-insurance policy coverage, and will have applied that knowledge through real-life case study exercises.

Curriculum

The CLCS curriculum is based on the most important document in the insurance industry: the insurance policy. Materials are adapted from expert insurance coverage materials produced by the staff of The FC&S Bulletins and Coverage Guide Series. The curriculum is presented through a study guide, four Coverage Guides and five e-Learning CD-ROM courses and they are:

  • Business Auto (CD-ROM, Coverage Guide & Online Exam)
  • CGL (CD-ROM, Coverage Guide & Online Exam)
  • Commercial Property (CD-ROM, Coverage Guide & Online Exam)
  • Insurance Principles (CD-ROM & Online Exam)
  • Workers Compensation (CD-ROM, Coverage Guide & Online Exam)

An Online Exam instruction sheet will be mailed along with the CD-ROMs and Coverage Guides for each course. The instruction sheet will also contain a serial number to provide access to the Online Exam.

Program Completion

Eligible candidates can earn the CLCS designation through a self study program through The National Underwriter Company or through an authorized instructional academy.

Self-Study

  • Step 1: Score of 70% or better on each of the following CLCS Coverage Exams:
    • The Business Auto Policy
    • The CGL Policy
    • The Commercial Property Policy
    • Insurance Coverage Fundamentals
    • The Workers Compensation Policy
  • Step 2:Complete a Request for CLCS Designation form
  • Step 3: Sign and Mail the completed form to:

  • Your CLCS certificate will be mailed to the address you provide on your Request Form. Please allow 2 weeks for processing.

Authorized Insurance Academy

  • Step 1: Register as a student with an authorized insurance academy
  • Step 2: Complete the course of study as required by the provider, including satisfactory scores on program examinations
  • Step 3: The authorized provider will provide you with a Request for CLCS Designation Form upon satisfactory completion of the course of study, and will forward the form to The National Underwriter Company
  • Your CLCS certificate will be mailed to the address you provide on your Request Form. Please allow 2 weeks for processing

Eligibility

One of the following qualifications is required for an individual to be eligible for the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) designation:

  • Licensed agent, broker, adjuster, CSR or solicitor
  • At least one years of full-time experience in the insurance industry or as a risk management practitioner
  • Students of insurance academies authorized to confer the CLCS designation
