Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to earn the PLCS Designation, you must meet one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Licensed agent, broker, adjuster, CSR or solicitor.
  • At least one year of full-time experience in the insurance industry or as a risk management practitioner.
  • Students of insurance academies authorized to confer the PLCS designation.

PLCS Program Completion Requirements

Eligible candidates can earn the PLCS designation through a self study program through The National Underwriter Company or through an authorized instructional academy.

Self-Study

Step 1: Score of 70% or better on each of the following PLCS Coverage exams:

  1. Homeowners (eLearning Course, Coverage Guide & Online Exam)
  2. Insurance Principles (eLearning Course & Online Exam)
  3. Personal Auto (eLearning Course, Coverage Guide & Online Exam)
  4. Personal Umbrella (eLearning Course & Online Exam)
  5. Insuring to Value (eLearning Course, Coverage Guide & Online Exam)

Step 2: Complete a Request for PLCS Designation Form

Step 3: Mail the completed form with copies of the Results Page from each of the five Coverage Exams to:

Your PLCS certificate will be mailed to the address you provide on your Request Form. Please allow 5 to 7 business days for processing.

Authorized Insurance Academy

Step 1: Register as a student with an authorized insurance academy.

Step 2: Complete the course of study as required by the provider, including satisfactory scores on program examinations.

Step 3: The authorized provider will provide you with a Request for PLCS Designation Form upon satisfactory completion of the course of study, and will forward the form to:
